{Mr. O}

September 27, 2008

Meet Mr. O! This is my third time meeting this little guy and honestly I think he gets cuter every time I see him. He is now six months old and just the most sweet-natured baby. I loved all of his little smiles. Here’s a sneak peek of some of my favorites. (Don’t you just wanna squeeze those little legs??!!)

{storyboards}

September 25, 2008

One of the things that I love are storyboards. They are such a great way to “tell a story” in one printed keepsake. I am developing a series of storyboards in various sizes  – they range from sizes 5×10 on up. The storyboards are mounted and then sprayed for longevity and durability. Here are a couple 10×20 storyboards that I just designed. This size is great for hanging on the wall. But if you prefer you could go with a smaller 5×10 size and place the storyboard on an easel for use on a shelf or small table.

I will continue to add samples of these type items in my “Product” gallery on my website. Stay tuned for more samples!

{Sisters}

September 24, 2008

Meet Miss I and Miss S – they are both so adorable! This is the fourth time that I have the pleasure of working with this family. One of the things that is so fun for me is that the mom does such a great job of picking out clothes for the girls and she lets me try so many creative things in our time together. Here are just a few of my favorites – honestly, there were so many to choose from!

{Urban}

September 24, 2008

Ok, so I know you all are seeing a lot of “urban” shots lately in my blog & site. As you can tell I love ‘em! I wanted you to see at a glance what kind of images I’ve taken with my daughter. Here’s a collage of some my favorites of Miss J. All of this was done within a 2 block radius of a downtown Raleigh area that I just love. She is such a compliant model these days – of course, a lollipop and the promise of ice cream sure do go a long way! :) If you click on the image it will give you a larger view of the collage.

We visited my husband’s family recently and my brother-in-law’s 3 oldest kids were happy to sign up to do  an urban session with me while we were in town. They live in a small town outside of Columbus and I just LOVED so many things that were within walking distance of their home – a downtown area with brightly colored doors…old, dilapated barns and grassy fields for rustic shots and oh so much more. I could come up with a zillion ideas just in a small radius of their home – I wish had all of that in my back door! :)

Here are some of my favorites from our session together.’

And this one cracked us all up…. :)

{new processing technique}

September 18, 2008

I’m experimenting with adding some warmth and light to an image in my post processing. Here’s my first stab at it –

{Senior Session}

September 16, 2008

I did a senior session recently and it was so much fun! Have I mentioned how much I LOVE doing senior sessions?? So much so that I am running a promotional and giving away a complimentary 11×14 portrait with each senior session. If you know of someone that is a rising senior and in need of senior portraits I would love to have the opportunity to work with them. My favorite new setting is downtown Raleigh for an urban session. Why do I love urban so much – there’s COLOR, there’s TEXTURE, there’s feminine and masculine qualities that can be drawn on, there’s RUGGED and so much more. But I can do a variety of shots and styles – like a park or other setting if you would prefer. Click play below to enjoy a slideshow from a recent senior session:

{Matilda Jane Clothing Line}

September 15, 2008

I’m so thrilled to be working with the new Matilda Jane rep for the Triangle area. These clothes are all the rage among photographers and are especially great for “urban sessions”. The MJ “Sack Lunch” pieces have already arrived and soon the “West Side” pieces will be here, too. I’ll be hosting a Trunk Show on Saturday, October 11 from 2-4 pm UPDATE: I am going to have a catalog show instead. I will submit my final order on Sat, Oct 11th. Please email with any questions about placing an order- thanks! where you can have a chance to buy pieces from the MJ clothing line. I’ll also have a chance to feature some of my photography work. What I love about these clothes is the uniqueness, versatility, and longevity of the pieces (what starts out as a dress for a toddler can be used as a shirt for your young girl). Would love for you to swing by! Here are some of the pieces from the “Sack Lunch”.

{New Blog}

September 8, 2008

Welcome to my new blog!! I was having some issues with my old one and had been wanting to switch for some time. This is just my first pass at the “new look”. I have so many ideas of what I want to implement but it will take a little time. In the mean time, enjoy the new look and anytime you wanna visit all you have to do is add the word “blog” to the end of my web address – www.discoveryoflife.com/blog

Have a great night! Oh, and I’ll be away for a few days so if you need to reach me please send an email and I will TRY to check messages while I’m away.

Take care!
