I had a blast with my nephew going downtown and doing his senior pictures when they were in town visiting. I know his parents are so proud of him – he’s a smart kid with a lot of talents and to top it off he’s got such a level head. Thanks for letting me do your senior portraits – I had so much fun!

Hey all! It’s great to be home and settled. Wanted to share a few images from our fun time in Charlotte. I would LOVE the opportunity to come back to this urban setting. These models were so fantastic!

I’m really loving the look that off camera flash gives – it’s dramatic, it’s different, and it’s a lot of fun!
Oh, and I tell my clients – don’t be afraid of color! Don’t be afraid of texture! I love how it translates in an image!

I’m trying some new techniques in lighting. It’s crazy fun. Here are some of my first shots with this new lighting approach.

Hi friends! Just a quick post of some images that I did recently using a friend’s home studio. She was gracious enough to have myself and kids over to do some practice shots with her studio lighting. We had fun. I promise that I won’t be giving up on natural light because it is truly my favorite but there is value in learning some techniques with lights and flashes when certain times call for it! :) I must sign off and get some work done during the kiddos naptime. Have a great one!

Gotta work this one into a Valentine card somehow. Oh, and did you notice the new pettiskirt? Can’t wait for some sweet, little girl clients to use it!

I am so thrilled because I had yet another fun opportunity to hit the streets of downtown Raleigh for an urban senior session – woohoo! Meet Miss M – and everyone, I want you to know how awesome she did in our brutally cold conditions during our session – she was an amazing trooper through it all!! I had a great time despite cold fingers and numbness and I think she did too. :) Hope you enjoy your sneak peek and can’t wait for you to see the rest!

Don’t you just love all the vivid colors?!

I just LOVE her eyes!

One of the things that I’m actively working on are custom albums – here’s a mockup of a two-page spread that could easily be placed in an album. (Stay tuned to my blog for more details of these custom albums).

And can you believe this absolutely breathtaking sunset that we had as we finished up our session??!!

Have a great day!

{Winding Down}

December 11, 2008

Well, this holiday season is truly winding down for me – Whew! It’s been quite a wild ride of meeting with many new people and capturing wonderful photos that I hope will be cherished for many years to come! I was reflecting earlier today about how tremendous this last year has been – this officially wraps up my first year of business and I’ve learned and grown so much and there have been NEW things along the way… a new website, new clients, new computer, new equipment, new venues, new products, new monitor calibrators…and many FIRSTS…learning how to do taxes (yuck! :) , learning how to handle workflow, orders, setting up shopping carts and slideshows, creating albums (custom and otherwise), researching the best labs to give the highest quality possible to my clients, and setting up so many systems!  And SO much more! I look to next year and anticipate getting everything running like a “well-oiled machine”. :)

BTW, I had an opportunity to take photos with children and Santa this past weekend at my husband’s office & so while I still had loaned lighting equipment in my possesson I thought I’d grab a few shots of my kiddos…

and as you can see my kiddos ransacked my seamless paper. hee!

And if you’ll notice “x” marks the spot where I told them to sit and “look at Mommy!”. :) Well, in 2009 I have a lot of goals and one of those is to learn more about lighting to help supplement when needed when working with babies and newborns. More later! Have a great day!
